Passion in Every Cup

In 1970, in the lush green hills of Kono District, a young and determined man named Sahr Abu Bangura began a humble journey that would brew into one of Sierra Leone’s most inspiring family business stories. With nothing more than a deep love for coffee and a belief in the richness of his homeland’s soil, Sahr started processing coffee beans locally, by hand and with simple tools, to serve his community and nearby towns.

Back then, coffee production in Kono was small-scale and largely informal. Sahr would buy raw beans from local farmers, dry and roast them over open fires, and sell the fragrant roasted beans in nearby markets. His passion for quality and his care for every bean earned him a reputation for producing some of the region’s finest local coffee — full-bodied, earthy, and naturally aromatic.

As years passed, his little operation became a local name for excellence. What started as a small neighborhood roasting effort slowly grew into a trusted supplier for traders and cafes across the district. The Bangura family worked side by side — roasting, grinding, and packing each batch by hand, keeping the process as pure and honest as the day it began.

In 2008, the dream took its next bold step forward with the founding of Aromatic Coffee — a modernized local enterprise dedicated to processing raw coffee beans into premium roasted and ground coffee. With new equipment, improved packaging, and a growing demand for authentic Sierra Leonean coffee, Aromatic Coffee became a proud symbol of craftsmanship rooted in heritage.
